Andrew Osenga: A Quadruple Threat in Nashville

The phrase "triple threat" describes those rare musicians who are great singers, songwriters, and players. With recent advances in technology, a growing number of these musicians are transforming their second bedrooms into studio spaces. Many of these indie "bedroom recordings" rival major label production work, proving that some "triple threat" musicians have very keen production abilities as well—hence, the quadruple threat.

Nashville musician Andrew Osenga is one such quadruple threat. Self-produced songs such as "Santa Barbara" and "New Beginning" show off Osenga's finely tuned ears and artistic vision (each song requiring uniquely different production work), as well as his ability to translate his artistic vision into a finished product. But the heart of Andrew Osenga is in his songwriting, singing, and amazing guitar-work. Indeed, Osenga's recent full-band performance at 3rd & Lindsley here in Nashville highlighted his brilliant fingerstyle electric guitar playing that is on par with the legendary guitarist Mark Knopfler.

Osenga delivers alternative ambient rock along the same lines as Neil Finn of Crowded House, with a heavy dose of Knopfler inspired guitar-work. His vocals are a beautiful cross between Jackson Browne and Bruce Cockburn. The songs are well-crafted with plenty of textures and the right amount of tension/resolution blended into Osenga's guitar playing and vocals. The lyrics intelligently grapple with universal themes of anger, forgiveness, and the human situation while being delivered with artistic subtlety that will have mass appeal.
