March 5th, 2007 @ Bongo Java, Upstairs—SWAN DIVE

Swan Dive graced the puremusic.com stage Monday night at Bongo Java with an intimate 6-song short set, as part of puremusic.com's series of Monday night concerts. Together since 1993, the Nashville-based duo of Bill DeMain (guitar, vocals) and Molly Felder (vocals, percussion) have charmed audiences abroad from Japan to Spain, and with their tenth CD due out in May of this year, they will no doubt continue building their USA fan base.

Multi-instrumentalist Jim Hoke joined Swan Dive for Monday night's performance. The set featured several new songs from their forthcoming CD, and Jim Hoke's enchanting pedal steel, harmonica, and flute accompaniment added touches of jazz in all of the right pockets. Hoke, according to DeMain, is featured prominently on the new CD, and based upon the live sample of new songs, this new record promises to deliver subtle jazzy textures layered brilliantly into Swan Dive's breezy Latin influenced style of modern folk.

Indeed, Swan Dive is a delightful breath of fresh air for the Nashville music scene. A Swan Dive performance transports audience members to the coast of Portugal, the cafes of Paris, and San Francisco, as Felder's vocals are simultaneously international and folky, while DeMain's classical guitar playing brings a Latin influence to his deceptively innocent songwriting. Look for upcoming performances by Swan Dive at the Mercy Lounge later this month, and a 9pm full set at the Bluebird in April.
