June 6, 2008 @ The Rutledge — Sam Ashworth

Sam Ashworth Channels George Harrison and Roy Orbison for an Organically Vintage Vibe

Nashville-based singer/songwriter Sam Ashworth's recent show over at The Rutledge on Friday night (June 6, 2008) was as good as it gets in this town. Ashworth's new EP is now available, and while the recorded material is strong, the live show is magical. Ashworth's voice is a beautiful blend of George Harrison and Roy Orbison, and he includes a beautiful version of Orbison's "Crying" in his current sets. Ashworth prefers an organic sound, and his live shows are typically a trio, with only bass and drum accompaniment. This organic sound serves to elevate the vocals in the mix, and rightly so. Sam Ashworth's vocals are hypnotically vintage, his songs are radio-friendly, and he could easily follow in the footsteps of Chris Isaak with the proper major-label guidance. —Vincent Wynne
