June 27, 2008 @ 12th & Porter Butterfly Boucher
Butterfly Boucher is one of several very talented siblings originally from Australia who all now reside on at least three different continents. Butterfly Boucher now lives in Nashville, and this city is extremely fortunate to be able to claim her as a resident. Indeed, Nashvillians are infrequently treated to intimate Butterfly Boucher performances, and in the lead-up to Butterfly's anxiously awaited new record, live shows are occurring more often. This writer attended her most recent performance on June 27, 2008 at 12th & Porter and she put on one of the best Nashville rock shows of 2008.
Boucher successfully blends the feminist rock 'n' roll rebel image of Joan Jett with the emotional songwriting sensibilities of Roger Waters and the vocal tone of Björk. Butterfly Boucher's new material is very strong, and samples offered on her myspace page indicate a masterfully produced forthcoming record that will no-doubt catapult her from indie darling to household name. The show on Friday night (June 27, 2008) was a full-on rock show. The Nashville summertime heat was in full-effect, but the 90-degree temperature inside 12th & Porter didn't slow her down. Rather, it's fair to say that boys and girls alike find Butterfly Boucher to be a stimulating sight, to say the least, and sweating only increased the amount of pheromones in the room. Indeed, never before have I witnessed a woman blend rebellion, vulnerability, and intelligence as authentically and creatively as Boucher. To be sure, the future of rock 'n' roll is secure as long as Butterfly Boucher continues making music and performing.
Boucher is about to head out on a short tour called "Ten out of Tenn" with several other Nashville-based indie and emerging artists. Don't miss this opportunity to see Butterfly Boucher, a rare talent who is destined to become a household name.
