When watching Glossary perform live, one is reminded of the early REM live performances. Glossary turns the volume up, speeds it up, and the vocals become undiscernableyet the audience knows that behind the volume and speed are lyrics with which it identifies. This combination makes for potentially explosive performances, as the fans who know the lyrics (a growing number) from listening to Glossary's recordings are able to bridge this gap and participate in the energy of the moment. Kelly's backup vocals are often slightly off-pitch, yet her soft vocal textures blend well with Joey's forceful lead vocals. The lead guitar player's work helps fuel the tone of Glossary's alt-country/southern rock soundjust loud and unschooled enough to maintain the slightly frenzied energy while simultaneously delivering Southern rock riffs more reminiscent of Peter Buck than Drivin' and Cryin'.
The result is to conclude that, although now veterans, Glossary is a band that is clearly still in their nascent stages. But as the history of rock n' roll suggests, the early years of legendary rockers are always the best. Catch Glossary perform whenever you can, as soon as you can. Any major record label with any sense will sign these guys (and gal) and, with proper mentoring, watch them blossom into the next Southern rock band to make a serious impact on the music world.
