August 25, 2008 @ Mercy Lounge (8 off 8th) — Dabney Morris Dabney Morris is Impressive at Mercy Lounge It's hard to make a good impression on the audience in the short time bands are given to perform during the weekly 8 off 8th showcase at Mercy Lounge. However, on August 25th, Dabney Morris accomplished this difficult feat. Following in the footsteps of bands like Beirut and DeVotchKa, Dabney Morris brings a refreshing violin-enhanced sound to the Nashvillians out there who want to hear a more diverse array of instruments in local music. So far, Dabney Morris has one EP out entitled Ocean. While the EP is certainly good, it doesn’t quite match what the band accomplishes in their live show. This is definitely one of those bands that we’ll need to keep our eyes on as they continue to perfect what they’ve begun. The band will be playing the Next Big Nashville music festival and conference on the 13th of September at the 5 Spot in East Nashville. They are deserving of a listen and this writer will surely continue to keep an eye on them. —Michael Campbell |
